Next.js PWA Starter Kit
Co-authored the Next.js PWA starter so nobody has to fight service workers alone: offline support, push notifications, accessibility defaults and CI/CD. About 950 stars and 200+ forks later, it's still going.
Overview
Co-authored a production-ready Progressive Web App boilerplate for Next.js that has accumulated about 950 GitHub stars and 200+ forks. The template covers offline support, push notifications, accessibility (a11y), and CI/CD out of the box, and has been maintained across Next.js major versions 12 through 15.
Problem
Most Next.js starters omit PWA requirements entirely, leaving developers to stitch together Workbox configuration, manifest generation, and service-worker registration themselves — often incorrectly. There was no authoritative, maintained reference point that kept pace with Next.js breaking changes.
Solution
Placeholder — expand with architecture decisions: service-worker strategy, Workbox configuration choices, how the manifest and icons pipeline was structured, and how major Next.js version upgrades were handled.
Outcome
Placeholder — fill in impact: star count trajectory, number of community contributions merged, notable projects that depend on the starter, or downstream forks that extended it.
